Facial Prosthetics

 

Sometimes a patient is not a candidate for reconstructive surgery. In the event of a traumatic injury, cancer resection, or congenital condition such as microtia, an alternative to surgery is prosthetic treatment. Our staff anaplastologist, Erin Donaldson, will custom fit, sculpt, paint, and deliver a prosthesis. She will work with each patient in one-on-one portrait sessions, and also reference photographs of the patient prior to illness or injury. It is important to note that a prosthesis is not a permanent part of the body. Our prostheses are fabricated from medical grade silicone, and are worn daily much like a pair of eyeglasses. The prosthesis is held on by using skin adhesives or attached through osseointegrated implants. Our surgical team will discuss these options with you before beginning prosthetic treatment. Below are some of the options we provide:

Eye

Facial Prosthetics | Eye Prosthetics | Westchester | White PlainsAn orbital prosthesis is custom designed for patients who have had a full orbital exenteration, or underwent retinoblastoma radiation therapy as a child. This prosthesis can be worn with adhesive. It can also be worn with an osseointegrated implant magnet system placed in the supraorbital rim.

 

Ear

Facial Prosthetics | Ear Prosthetics |  Westchester | White PlainsAn auricular prosthesis is custom designed for patients who have had a full or partial auriculectomy due to skin cancer or experienced loss of the ear due to trauma. This prosthesis can be worn with adhesive. It can also be worn with an osseointegrated implant bar and clip system placed in the temporal bone.

 

Nose

Facial Prosthetics | Nose Prosthetics | Westchester | White PlainsA nasal prosthesis is custom designed for patients who have had a full or partial rhinectomy due to skin cancer or experienced loss of the nose due to trauma. This prosthesis can be worn with adhesive. It can also be worn with an osseointegrated implant magnet system placed in the maxilla bone.

 

 

Hemifacial

A hemifacial prosthesis is custom designed for patients who experience extensive trauma or disease and need more than one facial feature replaced. At ENT Faculty Group we will ensure an interdisciplinary and holistic approach to providing the best possible outcome.
